Worn Out Threads | Jessie Feyifunmi Sethdavid
Heartbreak is a yearning for the garment,
A fabric woven from promises once stitched,
A cloak shielding the brokenness within,
Now unravelling in the hands of time.
The warmth of what could have been,
But never entirely was.
The heart beats in a fractured rhythm,
Each pulse a plea for wholeness,
For a mending that remains just out of reach.
A quiet ache lingers in the space between hope and surrender.
In it—the longing for the embrace of love,
Something for the cold of absence,
But the garment never arrives.
We search for it in the familiar,
In the faces that echo the past,
places where love’s imprint lingers still.
We pull tightly at the threads of our memories,
Yet, the fabric remains threadbare,
The wounds never truly healed.
Still, the longing persists—
An unspoken hunger,
For a comfort that refuses to mend,
A garment that was never ours.
And so we stand,
In the quiet ruins of a love we can never reclaim,
We reach for it, in fight,
we hope.
But perhaps the truth is:
Heartbreak is less about being made whole,
And more about learning to move with what remains.
To wear the empty spaces like a second skin,
To find warmth in what endures.
